06 Second Brain
Notes for Linux and Android that live as plain files: markdown, S Pen handwriting, OCR search.
samiul@portfolio:~/projects/second-brain-desktop$ cat problem.txt
Note apps keep notes in proprietary clouds and formats. The requirement was typed markdown, handwritten pages, photos and PDFs as plain files that work with rsync and grep and stay readable indefinitely.
samiul@portfolio:~/projects/second-brain-desktop$ cat build.log
A Flutter app (Linux and Android, phone to foldable) over a vault of notes/*.md with YAML frontmatter and an assets/ folder; the database is derived from the vault, never the other way round. S Pen pages are captured as vector ink (pressure, tilt, side-button eraser, palm rejection, pinch zoom) and stored as .ink.json plus PNG. OCR runs ML Kit on Android and Tesseract on Linux and indexes handwritten and photographed pages into the same FTS5 search as typed text, without ever overwriting the source. Wikilinks, tags and a force-graph map are included. Sync is opt-in: a Rust Axum hub on a home server, paired with a QR code.
samiul@portfolio:~/projects/second-brain-desktop$ cat highlights.txt
- Vault = truth: plain .md + YAML + assets/ on disk
- S Pen vector ink with pressure, tilt and palm rejection
- OCR (ML Kit / Tesseract) feeds handwritten pages into FTS5
- Optional Rust Axum home-server sync, paired via QR
- One app across phone, tablet, foldable and Linux
